The Gravity Ultra user experience leveraged the latest generation video hardware to demonstrate the advantages of 4k resolution for content discovery.
PROCESS
We began by identifying the primary pain points plaguing media browsers of the time. As the number of content choices were rapidly expanding, media guides were struggling to adequately organize and display content in meaningful ways.
We learned from interviews that users could easily resolve many times more content items than current designs allowed. Standard single row navigation was the limiting factor. After experimenting with multiple variants we landed on a design that removed the need for a flat layout, maximizing for vastness of catalog while maintaining intuitive navigation.
HERO SCREENS
Once a viewer launches Ultra and selects a profile, their view explodes into all of the content that surrounds that person's digital footprint. This is our Smart Playlist feature, powered by an Anticipation Engine which places the most relevant content front and center for a quick preview. Once the viewer finds something of interest they simply select it and launch full screen video.
When launching the main menu, the core of the Gravity Ultra user interface organizes into a Stack View. All of the available content is organized into columns by type.
When a Stack is selected, the content is spread across the screen and zooms forward into the spotlight. Using the increased resolution of UHD/4k we are able to leverage more graphics and less text to create a more aesthetically pleasing visual design.
Selecting the ‘More Info’ button displays a Media Card with all of the available metadata for a selected piece of content. It includes the promotional artwork, video, synopsis, cast and related titles.
