What if your remote made the TV feel like a giant touchscreen? IntuiTV paired a custom e-ink remote with a video-first interface, letting viewers swipe, drag, and tap their way through a vast catalog of Live TV, Video On Demand and Streaming Apps.

My RoleI led the visual and interaction design, mapping gestures directly between the remote and the screen. I prototyped the experience end-to-end, including media cards, discovery, and search.

ResultsThe prototype was a standout in client demos and at IBC, showcasing a bold new approach to remote-driven interaction. It reinforced our reputation for innovation and influenced future designs for streaming navigation.

Staying true to our philosophy of video as the centerpiece, the starting point for the IntuiTV experience was full screen video playback. The user could swipe in any direction to explore, or tap to access more information on the currently airing video.

Channel tuning with IntuiTV was done by swiping left/right but a viewer could also fine tune their experience by dragging for a channel peek. As you started to drag from the right edge to the left, the next channel information pushed the current channel over, taking up the same amount of screen space as your drag percentage. As you continued dragging, the next channel took over more of the screen and on release, the dominant channel was displayed.

We also took advantage of the remote sync to re-imagine the Program Guide for the modern viewer. While watching video, swiping up would reveal a strip of live channels so you can easily browse what’s on with minimal interruption to the currently airing show. This feature satisfied the 80% of viewers we tested who said they are primarily interested in launching the Guide to see what’s on now.

For the other 20% of viewers, we offered intuitive continuity by allowing a second swipe in the same direction, revealing the full program guide showing future airings across all channels. Both modern and traditional users were covered, and the Guide ended up actually looking cool 😎
